Bold Actions has been supported by the Community Fund to engage with the community of young adults, the adults over 50 and Women within the hard-to-reach communities especially the black and ethnic minorities in Birmingham to inspire and influence them to take practical actions to overcome barriers to achieving wellbeing. A more proactive way to assist the community to bounce back after COVID-19 and contribute to addressing life conditions exacerbated by the pandemic.

This is a new project to pave a way for further activities which can benefit the whole of west midland’s hard-to-reach communities. This project will provide practical actions that will equip community members to stay connected, support their mental and physical well-being, assist people with needs of additional help and inspire moderate and light physical activity.

This project will address how to overcome loneliness caused by self-isolation and social distancing, stress caused by adjusting to new routines, financial and employment insecurity; depression caused by lack of activity or exercise, and loss of normal routine.

Bold Actions has been supported by NNS Hall Green to run a Sewing Club for women with Congolese origins settled within Hall Green areas but also open to the whole community of adults over 50s. This is a new activity as a response to the loneliness and social isolation issues arising from the COVID-19 outbreak and many other rooted issues facing this targeted community, from poverty to many inequalities.

The overall project will benefit 36 women to learn new skills and stay connected. They will attend 48 sessions in total for the duration of the project. The Women Sewing Club will be open once a week on Wednesday from 10am – 2pm, four hours sessions for up to 12 women to attend.  The project will run for 3 periods of 16 weeks each and coordinated by a Lady sewing expert starting in November 2022.

The Sewing Club for women has a deep, therapeutic, and more meaningful impacts. Participants will experience feelings such as its requirement for concentration, its quietude, its absorption as retreat from the bluster of family life and personal issues especially for women at over 50s. Through sewing, Bold Actions in partnership with NNS Hall Green want to devise projects to involve socially marginalised people. Women will discover a different kind of peacefulness in community sewing: the collective concentration and camaraderie of a common endeavour.

The world needs to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

We at Bold Actions believe that climate change is a real and undeniable threat to our entire civilization. Many effects are already visible and will be catastrophic unless we act now to save our planet as there is no planet B.  The only way people in communities around the world will be bold to act is through education and awareness.

Our activity in this sector is to raise the voice for those affected communities by climate change impacts. To inspire people and communities to become informed and active citizens. Bold Actions has present to campaign at conferences on environmental issues including the COP conferences.

Bold Actions has been proud to present and campaign for “loss and damages” at COP 27 in Egypt.  Loss and damages refer to the most severe impacts of extreme weather on physical and social infrastructure of poor countries, and financial assistance needed to rescue and rebuild them.  The agreement to set up a fund for loss and damage is a significant and historic step towards climate justice for the poorest and most vulnerable countries, those least responsible for the climate crisis.
